Pre-Departure Checklist

    1. Boat Owner/Captain contract signed and returned.

    2. Clearance for Captain (& crew) to get through security at departure point.

    3. Inform the departure marina that we will be sailing your vessel.

    4. Are the boat’s batteries fully charged?

    5. Is the fuel tank full?

    6. Is the engine coolant full? (Is there extra coolant on board)

    6. Is the engine oil full? (Is there extra oil on board

    6. Engine and gearbox to be recently serviced.

    6. Manuals for engine, gearbox, and routine service systems

    6. All standing and running rigging.

    6. Condition and number of sails

    6. Does the boat have water tanks, are they full?

    7. Does the boat have all of it's hull plugs?

    8. Does the boat have all legally required safety equipment onboard? (must be in working order!)

      a. Navigation lights
      b. Fire extinguishers
          Boats 16’ to < 26’ needs one B-1
               26’ to < 40’ needs two B-1 or one B-2
               40’ to < 65’ needs Three B-1 or One B-1 and One B-2
      c. Visual Distress Signals (flares must be less than 3 years old)
      d. Coast guard approved PFDs (life preservers) and a type IV throw-able.
      e. Working ventilation system for gasoline fumes.
      f. Sound signaling device.
      g. Flares / Smoke signaling device
      h. Fog Horn / Bell / Sound Signaling Device

    9. Life raft, toolkit, extra oil & coolant,

    9. M.O.B. (Man Over Board) Horseshoe or Ring with Floating Line attached.

    10. Does the boat have a marine VHF radio, SSB/HF radio?

    11. Manuals for all navigation equipment, Radar and GPS, etc.

    12. Does the de-watering (bilge) pump work?

    13. Is the boat registered or documented? Are the appropriate papers aboard?

    14. Are the registration numbers displayed properly?

    15. Does the boat have an appropriate anchor and anchor line.

    16. Is there a First Aid kit aboard?

    17. Does the boat have current navigation charts for the area?

    18. Is there a working GPS on board?

    19. Has the boat been commissioned for the season?

      a. Is the engine in good working order?
      b. Has the boat been started yet?

    20. Does the boat have the appropriate dock lines and are they in good condition?

      a. There should be at least two lines that are 1.5 times the boat's length - plus additional lines for larger boats.

 

Before departure, the Captain will check the entire vessel for all safety equipment and ensure all electronic and mechanical equipment’s in proper working order.

If you have concerns about your vessel's readiness or equipment, please contact Captain Darren for a pre-delivery inspection. The cost for this is $65

You can also contact the Coast Guard Auxiliary or local Power Squadron for a complimentary Vessel Safety Check.

You will be charged for time spent on deliveries which are aborted or delayed due to equipment failure, and for all time spent troubleshooting.

If you are missing items on this list, Capt. Darren may have them available for use at no additional cost to you while he is aboard your vessel. Please notify us if we need to bring any extra gear.
